Another Great Loss in Africa - Last month we told you about the accidental death of Pastor Pearson Simtowe, father of missionary Kennedy Simtowe of Malawi, as well as the senior pastor and spiritual leader of our grace churches in Tanzania. Three weeks later, on January 30, our senior missionary in Africa, Carl K. Moyer, went to be with the Lord after a short illness. Carl began his missionary career in the Congo in 1958 and then married Joanne Deming (daughter of Otto and Gladys Deming, who were two of GMI’s original six missionaries in 1939) in 1961. In 1962, Carl and Joanne began serving the Lord at Tatanda, Tanzania, where they served for over 30 years before moving to teach at Tanzania Grace Bible Institute in Mumba, Tanzania. In 2002, Carl and Joanne were reassigned to Zambia where they have served in various capacities and where for the past five years Carl has pastored the English-speaking church with a focus on reaching the white farmers in the area. Carl and Joanne’s son, Dan, and his wife, Tina, along with Kennedy Simtowe and his wife, Sofia, founded the work in Zambia in 1998 where Dan is the GMI field director. Carl was buried in Tatanda, Tanzania, next to his good friend and colleague, Pearson Simtowe. Please pray for Joanne who continues serving in Zambia. Pray especially for the family. PTL for the thousands who have been touched through the life and ministry of the Moyers. Our missionaries have written of the impact that Carl “Babu” had on their lives and how they have committed themselves to “finish strong” the way Carl did up to the day he died. Missions Conferences - Please pray for the missions conferences that started in late February and will run to the end of March in the state of Michigan. Pray for the missionaries who will be presenting their ministries in the churches and at Grace Bible College. Schools in Zambia - One of the important things being done through our orphanage ministries in Zambia is to provide schooling for orphans. The government had threatened to close the schools because of lack of what they considered proper facilities. PTL Tim Meier and his fellow workers have completed repairing the existing classrooms as well as building two new classrooms. Please pray that this work will pass inspection and school will continue without interruption. Good Progress on the Kapenta Dispensary - PTL for the good report from Ted Rabenold regarding the new dispensary building which was started last fall. We are thankful for Ted's dad, Paul Rabenold, and friend, Mike Paglaiccetti, who spent a month in Tanzania wiring the medical center. Pray for Ted and his team as they complete the interior of the building. Pray also that this new ministry will enhance the evangelistic outreach of the Gospel in the Rukwa Valley. Missionary Conference in Costa Rica - PTL for the first missionary conference of the Grace church in Costa Rica conducted February 19-21. Dr. Sam and Becky Vinton were the speakers at the conference. Pray that from the church God will send forth missionaries to reach out into the neighboring countries of Central America. Chuck Befus is enjoying his class of 20 students in the Bible Institute where the students are learning to dig deeper into how to study the Bible and finding real joy in doing this. Please pray for successful surgery for Abel, one of the leaders of the new church plant, as well as for Matt Befus. Pray also for a couple who trusted the Lord Jesus as Savior a month ago. While they are taking some big strides, they continue to struggle with their past way of living. Puerto Rico Update - John Cox is thankful to the Lord for the new adult families now attending and is looking forward to the arrival of work crews from the States this month. Outreach in Australia - PTL for the gift of 500 DVDs titled, “A Question of Origins,” which was donated to the church. Pray for the group that will be distributing 300 of these DVDs at the Hornsby Mall on March 16 with invitations to the March 28 event at Fox Valley Centre. Pray for those who receive the DVDs that they will be receptive to the truth of who God is as Creator and the salvation He has provided through the Lord Jesus Christ. Reaching Congo Students - During December, rebel activities from those who have been hiding in the forest caused a disruption of the evangelistic outreach into the schools. PTL the teams are back into the villages. Pray that more students will trust the Lord Jesus as Savior. |
