Jim & Missy Tollar
Greetings to all our prayer partners: One month to go before departure! We can hardly wait to step on that plane for Kenya. The Lord has really provided for us and has taught us much about trusting in Him. He has and continues to open many doors for us as we prepare to leave. After returning from Florida in June, we have not done a lot of traveling. Most of this is due to the fact our missions training program was cancelled. This was supposed to take place from July 10th through the 25th. Because of this, we have spent much time at the Things To Come Mission headquarters in the missionary apartment. We did visit my (Jim’s) family in Wisconsin during the July 4th holiday weekend and had the opportunity to present our ministry at my parent’s church in Lake Geneva, WI (Lighthouse Bible Church). Two weeks later, we traveled to Tipp City, OH and visited Community Bible Church. This trip had a “strange” feel to it because this was probably the last time we will “officially” presenting our ministry to Kenya. The fact that things have slowed down for our family has been a blessing. We have been able to begin packing to leave for Kenya, or at least going through our things to bring only what we need. This is proving to be quite an interesting process. We are allowed to bring 15 pieces of luggage besides carry-on bags, and we need to make sure we can access Samantha’s things easily because she will be going to Rift Valley Academy shortly after we arrive. Weight limits are another matter we need to keep in mind. The weight limit is 50 pounds per bag, and it is amazing how quickly this limit is reached when packing a suitcase. A few months ago, while walking in a nearby park, we met a family from Kenya. What are the odds of that happening? Well, the Lord always brings people into your life for a particular reason. Now you may be asking, “How did you know they were from Kenya?” We happened to walk past the mother of the family and noticed her t-shirt. It said “Hakuna Matata,” which in Swahili means “No worries.” So we asked her if she was from Kenya and she said she was. So we invited them over for an American, Thanksgiving-style dinner, and in return they invited us over to their house for a Kenyan-style, roasted goat dinner. We continue to have wonderful fellowship with this family and they have answered many questions for us about life in Kenya. On August 15th we will be at Falls Bible Church in Menomonee Falls, WI for our commissioning ceremony as missionaries and my ordination ceremony to become a pastor. This will be a happy and sad day, all at the same time. We begin our ministry in Kenya, but will be saying good-bye to family for friends. BUT, the good-bye is exciting because of the work the Lord has for us, “the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery” (Romans 16:25). One week later on August 23rd, off to Kenya! Please continue to pray for us in the following: In Christ,
